Old Vines
David Guimaraens
To satisfy the demand for a full-bodied and fruity Late Bottled Vintage Port, exhibiting all its natural richness and concentration, in 2003 Fonseca developed the unfiltered version of its acclaimed Late Bottled Vintage. This proved to be so popular that Fonseca Late Bottled Vintage is now offered only in the unfiltered version. Fonseca's unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage is aged in oak vats, where it gradually ripens and falls brilliantly. Then it is removed into the flask without a fine or filtration. The result is a naturally expressive wine that has not sacrificed its depth and fullness of flavor. Since this Late Bottled Vintage is not filtered, it is possible that a light sediment may form in the bottle after two or three years.
Inky black color with a narrow magenta halo. The nose is closed, with an impressive depth, foreseeing a wine full of potential. Predominance of black berry fruit, where licorice and dark chocolate stand out. Fleeting balsamic and plum notes appear gradually as the wine opens in the nose. On the palate it appears stout, in a dense web of tannins. The lush flavors of jam and plum accompany an endless finish.
